Canon: Ever After High
Canonpoint: Beginning of Dragon Games (after the motherly "pep talk" from Snow White, but prior to freeing the Evil Queen)

Background: Ever After High wiki, cartoon canon only

Personality: In many ways, Apple is the textbook child of privilege. She's been set up all her life to inherit Snow White's story, and all the perks that go with it. No one around her ever questioned this, so Apple grew up expecting the love and admiration of the people around her. Boys fawn over her, animals flock to her, and she's inevitably one of the most popular people at her school. In her mind there's a certain way her life was meant to play out, and that would always end up in her favor.

It'd be easy, then, to expect Apple to be shallow and selfish. But Apple genuinely cares about the well-being and happiness of everyone, especially those she loves. She's kind, generous, and loyal to her friends even when she disagrees with their decisions. She's happy to share student council power with a co-president, or to vote for Raven as Thronecoming Queen, because she's so used to always winning things that giving someone else a chance is no threat to her confidence. When her friend Ashlynn chooses to be part of the Rebel crowd at the school, rejecting her destiny to create her own future, Apple immediately makes it clear that she's worried for Ashlynn but she will always be her friend.

Apple sees her popularity as an opportunity for leadership, and that leadership as practice for her role as future ruler of a kingdom. While her day seems free of troubles to outsiders, she actually takes it upon herself to solve even the smallest problems around her. It's successfully accomplishing this that makes Apple feel like she's had a great day. In a similar vein, she devotes herself to her studies and receives top marks in school - which makes her wish that she could be as known for her intelligence as she is for her beauty.

In fact, there are a lot of downsides to Apple's supposedly perfect life, especially since it relies on her confidence in her destiny. Apple is not exactly selfish, but she is self-focused. Since her fairy tale leads to a perfect future, she doesn't imagine that some other destinies might be painful, especially for the villain of a story. She spends a lot of her canon learning to see past the small confines of what she's always known. It takes quite some time for Apple to realize that her friends aren't in danger when they choose their own destiny, and quite a few of them are happier even in the midst of the chaos it causes. And when she does realize this, she acknowledges it's the right choice to make for them.

Apple has difficulty "thinking outside the box"; she understands the logical solution to problems but finds that creative pursuits come less naturally. She's a naturally guileless person and a poor liar, naively assuming most people will help without underhanded motives, especially if they're the hero of a story. For instance, it's a shock when she realizes that her mother Snow White will do "whatever it takes" to ensure Apple's popularity and success. This has also led to her directly feeding a villain information in the past, because she immediately assumed they were someone helpful.

Most importantly, Apple's life has been so on-script that throwing any wrench in the works causes her a lot of distress. She feels a lot of pressure to live up to every aspect of her mother's legacy, so even minor flaws in this - being blonde where her mother famously has black hair, for example - make her uncomfortable. When the Storybook of Legends is shelved for good, this leads to a fairytale world where there are no more destinies to follow, and this is what makes Apple feel significantly threatened. She is happy to share the spotlight, but doesn't know what to do when Raven outshines her and there's the potential of no longer being needed. It's a lot harder to believe you can be the best version of yourself if it's no longer a sure thing. Spending so long with a predetermined life, Apple lacks the inner core that gives her faith in her own decisons and abilites.

In her canon, this doubt leads to her making one of the most selfish decisions of her life by setting the Evil Queen free. In-game, it will lead to her making a deal with Kyuubey that she'll soon regret.

Wish: "I wish to become a great queen."

Apple tries her hardest to be the kind of heroine worthy of her story. That means even though her wish is a selfish one, she sees it as what's best for everybody. This way her happily ever after is guaranteed, but Raven doesn't have to be the Evil Queen - and maybe nobody does. Apple gets super-helpful magic powers to boot, which sure seems to be the reason everyone loves Raven at this point in her story. If she has to fight monsters as a Magi, she'll still learn how to use her magic and to be a princess of action when people are in danger.

Apple doesn't become a queen right away, of course, but she expected that. It doesn't occur to her that she could become a queen tomorrow or fifty years from now. And it's too bad that a "great queen" could mean greatly hated, feared, ridiculed, even "great and terrible." It might not even be literal royalty; after all, a Witch could be considered a kind of queen...

Worst of all, Kyuubey seems to have concealed that this trip away from home is permanent. And that she can't go back even to visit. Apple might have signed her destiny away entirely when it could have come true with some patience and time.

Passive ability: A Golden Tongue - Apple was already everyone's darling back home, and wishing to become a queen has helped that along. She is highly persuasive, and others feel more compelled to do what she asks than they would normally be. So far this will only extend to very small matters, like simple tasks. Anything more powerful would require focus and mastery Apple hasn't learned yet (since often she's yet to realize she's doing it at all), and would obviously require some serious player permissions as well.

Active ability: Come, My Animal Friends! - One of the roles of a queen is to direct brave heroes to fight on her behalf. In classic princess form, Apple is a friend to all living creatures and both she and her mother seemed to attract songbirds back in the fairy tale world. In this world, Apple is able to magically create one small animal with combat capabilities to fight as her protector, which will disappear at the end of the battle or if it is too injured to continue the fight. This will eventually extend to more creatures, as well as larger ones, as her power progresses. If Apple's soul gem grows too dark, the animals will take on a malevolent appearance and be more aggressive and difficult to control.

Weapon: Apple's weapon is a golden scepter, like the one she sees in the vision of her destiny on Legacy Day. She is able to use it as a mace or a staff, and may develop the ability to cast magic from it as her power develops.
